Visual Asset Manager 6 Installation

*If you have an earlier install of Visual Asset Manager 6 and receive a message asking you to uninstall  before installing Visual Asset Manager 6 please follow the instructions found here: http://support.e-isg.com/entries/20344998-uninstalling-vam

 *If you had previously created a scheduled task to run the Importer.exe from a previous Visual Asset Manager 6 version, please be sure to delete that scheduled task before performing an upgrade.

 

1. Run the Visual Asset Manager 6 Setup file.

2. Click next at the Welcoming screen.

3. Click I accept to the terms in the License Agreement and then next.

4. Choose the location in which you would like your VAM setup files to be installed at.

5. Select the website where you would like the virtual directory to be created, for this install we’re going to use our default website.

6. Choose which authentication method you would like to use for Visual Asset Manager 6.  You have two options: Windows authentication and Forms authentication.

Windows Authentication allows for the use of existing Windows credentials to log into Visual Asset Manager, bypassing the login screen. 

Forms Authentication will allow Visual Asset Manager administrators to manage usernames and passwords.  The login screen will display as soon as the user attempts to use VAM.

 

7.Once you choose your authentication mode the installer will then browse for SQL servers on the network.

8. Once it has located the servers it will pull up the SQL connection configure screen. Select the SQL Server that your Visual Asset Manager database will reside on.

9. Input your SQL Server credentials. It is recommended that the account used for this connection have permission to create and modify the VAM6 database.

 

10. After clicking next VAM installer will connect to the SQL Server.

11. Once VAM installer has connected to the SQL Server it will ask you if you want to create or update an existing database.  If you should choose to update you use the drop down menu to select the database you wish to update.

 

12. If you would like to create a new database click the create button and put in the name you wish to use:

13.  Select the framework you would like to use for your Database structure.

  • Emergency Management framework is for Emergency Management clients to track equipment and supplies. The Emergency Management framework has categories, tabs, and fields that are optimized for this purpose.
  • Facilities Management is used to track office furniture and IT equipment.
  • IT Asset Management framework conforms to the ITIL V3 standards. This framework is meant for IT departments to track their assets.
  • Legal and Professional Services is a framework used for law firms and professional service organizations. This database contains classifications unique to these industries.
  • Basic Visual Asset Manager is used to perform an upgrade from Visual Asset Manager 5 to Visual Asset Manager 6.1.4 using your pre-existing data. A Basic framework is a blank template, without any tabs or fields to begin learning from.

14. Next you will have to choose an Import folder and Legacy path for the files, most often you will simply use the default location that the installer provides but if you wish to change the location you can do so by clicking the browse button.

15. The installer will then tell you that it is ready to do an install and ask you to click “install” in order to begin the installation.

16. VAM installer will begin the install.

17. *If you do not have .NET framework 4 the installer will ask you to update or install it as seen below.

18. The status of the install will then show up as seen below.

19. Once the .NET framework is installed click finish to proceed.

20. After the .NET framework install has been completed, VAM will finish installing.  This might take a few minutes for the VAM install to be completed.  After the install is complete click the “Finish” button to exit the installer.

21. Visual Asset Manager 6 is now fully installed. You can access the software by opening any browser and navigating to http://servername/VAM6. The default log in is “admin” with no password.
